Trophic importance of small pelagic fish to marine predators of the Mediterranean Sea

چکیده
Small pelagic fish (SPF) species such as European sardine Sardina pilchardus , anchovy Engraulis encrasicolus round sardinella Sardinella aurita and sprat Sprattus sprattus play important ecological roles in the Mediterranean Sea marine ecosystem. However, changes SPF abundance biomass have recently been observed basin. Therefore, uncovering trophic importance of to their predators is key unravelling potential causes consequences population related predator dynamics. Here, we reviewed 101 published studies reporting presence named above diet inhabiting Sea. We found that number preying on was highest for teleost species, followed by elasmobranchs, seabirds, mammals, cephalopods sea turtles. These were both commercial non-commercial taxa, vulnerability ranged from medium very high. From a conservation point view, most considered Least Concern IUCN, with few exceptions Balearic shearwater Puffinus mauretanicus Critically Endangered species. Geographic information showed more western basin, while consumption higher eastern side. Round consumed high amounts Tyrrhenian Sea, anecdotally consumed. The may indicate bottom-up control ecosystem; however, limited temporal precluded evaluation changes, highlighting need develop new this area.

Spatial Structure and Distribution of Small Pelagic Fish in the Northwestern Mediterranean Sea
Understanding the ecological and anthropogenic drivers of population dynamics requires detailed studies on habitat selection and spatial distribution. Although small pelagic fish aggregate in large shoals and usually exhibit important spatial structure, their dynamics in time and space remain unpredictable and challenging. In the Gulf of Lions (north-western Mediterranean), sardine and anchovy ...

The trophic level (TL) mean and variance, and the degree of omnivory for five Celtic Sea fish predators were estimated using a database of stomach content records characterized by a high level of taxonomic resolution. The predators occupied a high position in the food web, i.e. 4·75 for Atlantic cod Gadus morhua, 4·44 for haddock Melanogrammus aeglefinus, 4·88 for European hake Merluccius merlu...

Small pelagic fishes particularly anchovy (Encrasicholina punctifer) and sardine (Sardinella sindensis) have an important role to support the Iranian fisheries and are distributed along the coastal waters of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea. Using a logbook on small pelagic fisheries, a GIS-based environmental modeling approach was applied to investigate the presence and abundance of anchovy and s...

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
